All our custody officers are rigorously recruited and vetted, and are subject to an Enhanced CRB clearance which as part of good practice is renewed on an annual basis.Once appointed all custody officers are inducted using a comprehensive training programme that includes:
- P.C.C. (Physical Control in Care)
- First Aid
- Child Protection
- Health & Safety
- Equality and Diversity Awareness
- Cultural Awareness
- Fire Safety
- Functions of the court, court results & warrants
- Purpose of DTO
- Data Protection Act
- Power & responsibilities of the custody officer
- Assessment of vulnerability etc.
We recruit staff from a wide variety of backgrounds including former Police, HM prison, HM forces personnel and experienced social care staff. Our custody officers are recruited for their ability to deal with challenging behaviour and potentially violent incidents, and to defuse such incidents calmly and successfully.
